Gift aid
What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is a UK government scheme that allows charities to claim an extra 25p for every £1 you donate – at no extra cost to you.
Why is Gift Aid helpful?
- Supports educational activities
- Helps sustain our running costs
- Contributes to staff and administration fees
- Provides a budget for community initiatives
You can claim Gift Aid if you:
- Are a UK taxpayer
- Pay enough Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax to cover the Gift Aid claimed
- Provide your name and home address
Gift Aid Declaration
Gift Aid is reclaimed by the charity (Ujala Foundation is a charity registered in England and Wales, Registered Charity Number: 1173297) from the tax you pay for the current tax year. Your address is needed to identify you as a current UK taxpayer.
Declaration: “I want to Gift Aid my donation and any donations I make in the future or have made in the past 4 years to Ujala Foundation. I am a UK taxpayer and I understand that if I pay less Income and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in the relevant tax year, it is my responsibility to pay any difference.”
What does this mean?
If you donate £100, we can claim £25 from HMRC — making your donation worth £125. However, this is only valid if you’ve paid at least £25 in UK tax that year (since that’s the amount HMRC will reclaim).
