Marriage is my Sunnah. Whoever turns away from my Sunnah is not of me.” (Sahih al-Bukhari).

NIKAH (MARRIAGE)

Nikah is a Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ as mentioned in a Prophetic narration: “Marriage is my Sunnah. Whoever turns away from my Sunnah is not of me.” (Sahih al-Bukhari).

Allah Most High states:

“And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.” (Quran 30:21)

Several things ought to be considered before one can arrange a Nikah:

  1. Mutual consent for the Nikah from both bride and groom.
  2. Two male adults who will be present as witnesses.
  3. Mahr: The marriage-gift.

Nikah will only be conducted after procedures are correctly followed. Ujala Foundation can facilitate and host Nikah ceremonies. The Imam of the Masjid will offer the Nikah reading and register the marriage according to the Sharia (Islamic law). Thereafter, an official marriage certificate will be issued by Ujala Foundation to the married couple. A copy will be retained by the Masjid. If you prefer that an Imam perform the ceremony in a venue of your choice, this must be specified in the application form.

The Nikah service is solely a religious ceremony consisting of a covenant and sacred contract between the bride and groom in the presence of witnesses. Please note for any marriage to be recognised under UK law, a civil ceremony will need to be conducted. For more details about civil marriage ceremonies please contact your local town hall or register office.

If you’re interested in booking a Nikah with Ujala Foundation please email [email protected] or call Imam Warsi on 07888 553355. Alternatively, if you have any questions at this stage, please feel free to contact us below.
